Connect a Canon printer without WPS



If your having trouble connecting a older Canon printer which requires a WPS button this guide may help you get sorted. eero doesn't support WPS due to security encryption risks on the network.

The Canon printer connection guide below will help you connect to your router without using a WPS button, there are many different models of printers so some things might be slightly different for you.
  • Connect the printer by USB to your PC, turn on your printer (A-B USB lead).
  • Install the manufactures software, load the printer software.
  • Select connection type by USB, then select connect by wireless, select your WIFI name (SSID) and enter your WIFI password.
  • Then remove the USB cable once its all connected and your printer will remain connected to your WIFI network.
*If you have a older Canon printer with a LCD screen, you can select the WIFI network on the printer screen and enter your WIFI password. 

 

Connect a Canon printer without a WPS button. (requires USB lead)
  1. Download and install - (Wi-Fi Connection Assistant) - (This software was previously known as Canon IJ Network)
  2. Connect the printer by USB and turn on the printer
  3. Complete the connection process by selecting the USB connection option.
  4. Change the connection type to IPv4. Enter the printer password, which is the printer's serial number.
  5. Select the WIFI network, enter the WIFI network password, and then finish the connection process.
  6. The setup is now complete. Remove the USB cable and select Add Printer from the Control Panel's Add a device menu. The printer is now operational.


Setup WIFI Connection with a mobile phone - (without WPS)
  1. Download and open the Canon Print Inkjet from the app store on your mobile/tablet (android or apple)
  2. Turn on your printer.
  3. Press and hold the wireless button, wait until the alarm light flashes twice then let go.
  4. Blue WIFI light will be flashing on the printer.
  5. Phone settings, connect to the temporary printer WIFI network
  6. Open the Canon app - search for the printer.
  7. Select the WIFI network and put in your WIFI password.
  8. This will now connect your printer to your router.
  9. Click on - do you want to search for available printers (this will connect your printer to your network).

Based on the Canon MG3500 series - this should work with most Canon printers via the mobile phone setup (if this doesn't work try the USB method above).

Other things you can try
  • Temporally disable the 5ghz band on your eero router (done in the eero app - settings).
  • Try enabling guest WIFI on the eero app and see if the printer connects to it.
  • Restore Printer Network Settings to Factory Default
  • Check all printer drivers are up to date.
