Here is a quick guide how to install the eero routers from scratch. (I'm using eero 6e pro, but same applies to any eero 6 router).
Fibrus will install and set this up for you, I just done it myself to create the guide.
- Download the eero app from your Appstore (Android or Apple) (if your on Huawei or similar device that has no google play, I've uploaded the apk on the group under files and you can install it manually). https://www.facebook.com/groups/fibrususers/files/files
- Login with your current Amazon account or create a new eero account. (you can do this before you get your routers installed).
- Connect the main router to your Nokia ONT by ethernet and power on.
- Blue light will start flashing on the eero (pairing mode)
- Load up the eero app, "start setup" all the next parts are straight forward and follow each on-screen step.
- The eero router will turn solid blue once paired.
- If your eero can't be found you can scan the barcode on the base of the router and it will find it straight away.
- Once the eero router has found the gateway (Nokia ONT), you will be given a option to enter your Wi-Fi Name and Wi-Fi Password (you can keep this the same as your current router to save you having to reconnect your devices again).
- At this point your first eero is added, you can add another eero (power up the other eero at the top of your stairs or more central in your home to give you further WiFi range) once its all powered up select add another eero on the app and the app will automatically pick the 2nd eero up, if you have another eero you can add another as well (you can also add more eeros after the setup process as well).
- When setting up my eero there was a good 10-15mins of eero system updates, it will let you know when its finished installing them.
I've added the photos in order as best as possible to give you an idea of the app setup wizard.
If you have a static IP like myself I found eero wouldn't detect the Nokia ONT originally, I found out that if you add the eero to your existing router first using the eero automatic settings, you can then go and add your PPPOE static IP settings on the app, then you can disconnect your main router and use the eero as your main router.
(restart your Nokia ONT and router if your having any issues connecting).
This won't be a issue if your on a non-static IP connection / or a new/existing static IP connection as the Fibrus installer will set this up for you anyhow.
- The eero routers have 2 ethernet ports so if you need more you will need to add a network switch, 5 port gigabit switch is around £10. (the eero 6e pro has 1x 2.5g and 1x 1g ethernet port).
- There is no web admin for the eero router, everything is done via the app.
- The eero app is very easy to use and quick.
- There is no usb port for external hard drives / no DLNA, you could get around this by adding a dedicated NAS to your network. (eero is powered by usb-c).
- You can't manually split the SSID bands, the eero handles the devices automatically. (eero 6 has dual band 2.4ghz & 5ghz, eero 6e pro has tri-band 2.4ghz, 5ghz, 6ghz)
